It's been a trying week (or three) with little miss Juno. But her last act takes the cake! (You'll get that pun in by the end of this post). Last night when we got home from our Valentine's dinner, Dave half jokingly says, "Alright, let's assess the damage." before unlocking our front door. He's joking because we've only been gone 2 hours and we had just bought her loads of new toys to keep her entertained...but we walk in to find mail torn up, books ripped off of our bookshelves, and worst of all...munched on little cake people.
A word about my cake people. I looked high and low for some vintage cake toppers for our wedding. After months of regular internet searching, I came across this young couple on eBay. I was in love with them from the start, and lucky me, they were only 10 bucks. That summer, while I visited my grandma down in St. George, we made it our special project to give this antique couple a fresh, new look. We bought new paint, new material for a veil, some shalack and a small flower that would work as a bouquet. I've never been so proud of my crafting skills. The final product--a little mini-Dave & Lisa.
Besides our photographs, our video (and of course, our life-long commitment) these two were my only "souvenirs" from our wedding. I loved looking at them, sitting all fancy-like on my bookshelf. I envisioned that perhaps our future kids would want to use them for their wedding cakes, or at least admire the couple when I pulled them out of a memory box.
Oh, the sadness!! I really was so upset all I could do was send Juno to her kennel, and then jump in the shower so that I could have a good cry.
So, dear cake people--I'm really sorry that Juno liked you as much as we did. You served us well, and you will be missed.
Lisa
lesson learned- don't leave Juno out of her kennel she may not quite be ready!
ReplyDeleteAh, poor cake people. But don't get rid of them forever. They are still a keep sake, they just have a little more "life experience" now :)
ReplyDeletemy heart just broke a little :(
ReplyDeletei'm afraid it might get worse when babe arrives. that's gonna be one jealous pup.
Argh! Not cool.
ReplyDeleteWe got P. about nine months ago. He goes nowhere but his kennel when we're out--and that's been up to six or seven hours (for the state fair). He gets a treat when he goes in, to associate going in the crate with something good. He even goes in there when I'm teaching piano. And that's where he sleeps. Highly recommend crating; I used to think it was mean, but really, dogs like small, cave-like places of their own. His kennel is his bed, so he's happy there. (Mostly.)
And I highly recommend checking a few DVDs of "The Dog Whisperer" out. Brilliant.
Erin--yeah I am a big fan of the Dog Whisperer and she has a little kennel, but since I work 10 hr. days, we are trying to just get her to chill in the house...but I'm not sure if she's ready or I'm ready!
ReplyDeleteYeah, that is a long time for her to be in her kennel. One reason that I'm glad I can work at home. I try to get P. on a walk or run him around (kinda hard right now) before he goes in his crate, and then he's much happier.
ReplyDeleteTen-hour days? That is long! Hope you have very supportive shoes.
