GiGi

An amazing thing caught my eye in this set of pictures.  Do you see it?  Surprisingly, it's not the natural lighting, camera angle, composition, or the in-the-momentness captured in a day at the park.

Although, in all of those things she has a true talent, and especially the last.

No, the thing I noticed the most, that absolutely made me smile from the inside-out, was that Gigi is in a picture.  And Gigi is smiling, and playing, and doing the silly-lovey things that only Gigi can do.

A small miracle.  Gigi in a picture.  And a realization of the moments I could have captured of Gigi and Jude, and didn't.

So I want to put it down here.  So I remember, and Juju knows.

That Gigi was there the moment he was born.
That she smiled, cried, and said, "ohhhh, ohhhhh" when she saw him.
That she held him at the hospital.
That she would stop by on her way home from movies, just to cuddle him.
That when he learned how to crawl, she'd crawl around with him too--and he'd look back at her to make sure she was still following.
That she called him pickle.
That when she rocked him she insisted he be cozy in a blankey.
And that he'd fall asleep with her rocking him.

It's true, a picture is worth a thousand words, and I'm so grateful for this one.
(But, in the case where you don't have a picture, words still get the job done).

  4. Your mom is such a great lady. I like her.

Bum rashes and diaper cream and cloth diapers: One of these things just doesn't belong. It's CDs. Yep, there is no compatible-with-CDs cream. Which is a great reason for having the liners that I use--I put the cream on, put the liner between the bum and the diaper. Sometimes if S is really rashy, we just do the disposables and slick her up pretty good.

If you're getting rashes a lot (and J is not just really sensitive), it's something going on with his diapers. Usually they need to be stripped. The checkpoints are detergent, water, anything (like diaper-rash cream) that could've gotten on the diapers, even hard water. We have really, really hard water, so I strip more often than most--the buildup just happens quickly.

  5. p.s. Just a side comment: Our favorite rash cream = Dr. Beaudreaux's. It works more quickly than the others (and we have about five varieties, so I have tried a bunch). About $4 at Target (well, in MN, anyway--cheaper there).

  6. Oh, yeah--I tried to align via HTML and visual views, no luck. Ah, well. I'll fix it one day when it's more important to me.

I use the liners all the time, actually, not just when there's a rash--but when I expect, ya know, an event. Easy to change diapers. But I know I think you said your city outlaws the flushage? Can't remember. We like these ones: http://www.amazon.com/Imse-Vimse-Flushable-Liner-pieces/dp/B0009A3I5K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1301888978&sr=8-1. If you're feeling hard-core, there are also these ones http://www.amazon.com/Imse-Vimse-Stay-Dry-Liners-2/dp/B001IUSZU8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1301888978&sr=8-2, which we accidentally bought (still in the package as we speak). Basically reusable liners. If you are interested in going that route, though, let me sell you mine! They're never getting used.
