Living 4 Pinterest

Alright.
Pinterest--Round 2.
Here we go.

PIN NO. 1

This was probably the easiest pincreation.....ever!  I pinned it because it's a quote from the Avett Bros. and that just happens to be one of Crockett's favorite bands.  My original idea was to come up with a different lyric and make something similar.  But then I went and visited the original site, and boo-yeah:  free-download.  So what's a girl to do, but download and put it in a frame?  The more I read it, the more I am in love.  The bonus is that Crockett loves it more than I do, which is rare in the home decor category.

PIN NO. 2

This amazing sandwich was the perfect lunch when it was all cold and rainy out this past weekend.
Fresh mozarella (mouz-ar-ell as my Jersey friend would say), tomatoes, pesto, all grilled onto toasty bread?  Yes, please.  Again and again.  I HIGHLY recommend (we left out the avocados, and used regular old whole wheat bread, though).

PIN NO. 3

This little garbage can in the car ditty, I tried and did not like.   Because, while yes, all your garbage is conveniently in a box, the box then just tips over and slides around in your car when you drive, and then gets in people's way when they try to put their feet down.  I think I was lured in by this abnormally clean car.  But, the cereal tupperware now holds pretzels in my cupboard, not garbage...so not a complete waste.

PIN NO. 4

Hold up!  Don't you go thinking I'm some pioneer out scrubbing my wash on a washboard.  I tried this and I really do like!  It's not as bubbly-sudsy as the regular stuff, but our clothes come out fresh and clean--for super cheap!  And all the ingredients come from the same aisle as regular laundry stuff.  Easy peasy.  Instead of milk jugs, I cut the recipe in half and stuck it in my old laundry detergent bottle.

PIN NO.5

Because I already had all of the stuff on hand (you know, from the laundry detergent) I went ahead and set out to make dishwasher detergent.  But, this recipe called for Kool-aid lemon packets which happen to contain calcium phosphate, and phosphates are no bueno for Mother Earth...soooo, I just googled it and came up with this:  1 part borax: 1 part washing soda.  Then when I run the dishwasher I also pour a little white vinegar on the bottom of the dishwasher.  Dishes come out sparkly clean.  Promise.  Also, super cheap!

And you thought pinterest was just for wasting time...it can be practical too!

  5. Hm. I will have to think about the dishwasher detergent. I have it pinned, too, but we have really hard water, and we have battled our way through several varieties before finding something that, ya know, cleans. And you know that it's a big deal when I'm willing to forego going cheap and green.

I have been making my own laundry detergent, though, for a few years--and recently am kind of turned off. I don't feel like it cleans as well. And I miss the scents. But it is very economical, and I can get the ingredients easily and make it easily.

In other detergent news: I recently found out that Tide original (it has to be original) is ok for CDs. I know, shocker, something you can actually buy in a real store. One CD manufacturer, in fact, recommends it as their #1 choice. I'm trying it. So far, I think it does much better. I now believe in enzymes again.
