Leland:6 months

Is there a way to say that time flies, and let those two words really be felt?  I sit here typing and I have a heavy heart thinking about all the happy happy times I've had with my 2 little guys.  In these magic years.  And now, Leland, you are 6 months.  Someday you will understand and feel what I feel when I say time flies

I can hardly believe you are 6 months.

At 6 months, you have really come into your own.  You are one loud, squeaky, schrilling baby at times.  You bounce in your saucer, and light up and laugh when I look over at you.  You want to be touching or playing with something most times.  You've found my hair--youch!!  But, if we pop that binky in, it's like you're instantly chill just hanging out in our laps.  You giggle so easily now, and I can't pinpoint why exactly I feel this, but I think you're going to be a little ham.  You can sit up for long spells and play with toys...but...you still tip if you reach for something off center.  You've started to kick and kick in the bath.  You are our little side sleeper, and when we peek in on you guys at night you look so cozy curled up on your side.  It kills us.  We still take afternoon naps together.  This is something I wish I did more of with Jude, but I was too caught up in what I was "supposed" to be doing.  Leland, you are my baby-baby, and I am going to take full advantage of that as long as I can.  So even if I regret it later, I don't care.  When you wake up next to me, you turn your head up and blink your eyes all surprised like, "whoa, am I seeing this right???" and then, instant smile

At 6 months, you started solids.  If I'm honest, you've been ready for a few weeks now.  But, boy do you like your food.  I'm reading up on this baby-led weaning business, and think it's what I'd like to try with you, but we also have given you some pureed foods.  No matter what, you love it.  The first time Dad fed you he gave you pureed green beans--umm, yuck?  But, you gobbled them up and he couldn't get them in fast enough.  In the last 4 days since you've started solids, you have learned what it means to sit in your high chair, and you watch all food in and out of mouths, and you have a special "gimme-some-food" cry.  All in 4 days!!  So far, we've let you munch/suck on a tomato, banana, apple, orange, grapefruit, and carrots.  And then pureed carrots and green beans.

When I nurse you, or dad gives you a bottle, you like to eat and play at the same time.  You'll nurse, and then pop off, arch your back and look at the world upside down for a while, or find Jude and smile at him.  Then it's back to nursing, frantically.  The cycle repeats.

And at six months, you've cut your first teeth--(barely)!  I felt your gums just yesterday, and there they were.  Front bottom two teeth.  Can I dream that you'll be an easier teether than Jude?

All in all, still a way chill easy babe.  What?!  Rach can't understand how I ended up with 2 like this, given that I wasn't a chill baby at all.  What can I say?  Other than it's awesome. :)

  1. excited to hear more about the baby-led weaning. i do this so much at work and they just love it. they still get their mush but they much prefer their "real" food. does it make the bebes less picky in the long run?

  2. How handsome! :)

Time seriously does fly by. Most of my friends just had babies and within a blink of an eye, they are already almost a year old!

    Have a great week!

  3. Oh, those are wonderful thighs. It's interesting how his face seems to much rounder to me than Jude's but then when you show a close-up, he looks a lot more like Jude!

Also, we did baby-led weaning with S and are doing it with M. It scared me at first with S, but now I love it. M prefers pretty mushy food most of the time, but he essentially eats table food (minus lactose, grains, nuts, egg). For Easter he ate ham, asparagus, and pineapple--I just gave him pieces from my plate. He loved it.

  4. Leland looks like Jude but then looks so much just like Leland. His little quizzical face just melts my heart. I LOVE THE VIDEO! I don't know how you captured him so well but it is precious.
