How many of you remember this book? It's an oldie, but a goodie. Oh Grover, always so nervous for the end of the book, only to find that in the end, it's just his lovable, cuddly old self that's been giving him ulcers. I freaking loved this book (and turns out so did Dave---total soul mates--I just know he'd love The Time Traveler's Wife if he'd give it a chance!). But, I bring this book up now because lately, I can relate.
Each week, I get a little closer to having a little one--and while the excitement is always there, I am finding that my anxiety is building as time winds down. I mean, would you look at the pregnancy ticker to your right...less than 100 days to go! Our to do list is beyond long. I really need to get this place super organized. We need to sell furniture, paint furniture, paint closets and rooms, assemble furniture, etc. And then there's the yard that needs ship-shaping after having it ransacked by puppies for the past half year. Even more than all that (oh yes, there is always more), I really need to wrap my head around the complete life change coming my way. So I'm trying to enjoy our carefree nights together, our long dinners with friends, and being able to just get up and go. Ah, my last days of selfishness. Oh and PLUS, there all those thoughts about motherhood--breastfeeding, sleep schedules, play time, etc. You see why I'm anxious? I think I need to go lay down....
Don't worry...this book comes in the board book version and isn't quite as scary. If only babies were like that...
ReplyDeleteWe have a way old one of these books, (it was Mike's when he was little) and my girls LOVE it! And, rest assured, the lifestyle change strangely comes naturally. :)
ReplyDeleteyes, sis don't fret you now have no other choice! he,he i see how you are with my kids and are total natural so no worries. i still feel that anxious feeling of having a million things to do and don't even have the "nesting" excuse.
ReplyDeletei hope you can relax a little and enjoy. you'll be a great mama. kinda like rachel said, "this is one doodle that can't be undid"! can't wait to meet him.
ReplyDeleteI guess all of you knows what happened when Grover turned the page but me. WHAT? Nothing to do but make a list and do what you can one by one. Your bones are good, your brains are good and Jude is going to be a great kid. He will look just like Dave only better! Trust me! ZZ
ReplyDeleteWatching you grow up and become such a competent woman. Watching you train little juno. Watching you with your niece and nephews -- Leaves no doubt in my mind that you are going to be a terrific mom. Sit back, relax and enjoy the ride. It is one funny, fascinating, fabulous, fulfulling freakin long adventure ride! xoxo
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my three most favorite children's books. I read children's books when I don't feel good and this is one of my standbys. It's beat up--I got it at a garage sale, since the original version I read as a child belongs to my brother--but I love it. I think it's so hilarious. My David doesn't think it's nearly so funny, but it is.
