This little owlie is sooo super soft. Rachel and I spied it at Old Navy back before Christmas in their clearance bin...I didn't get it at the time because I had yet to find out if we were having a boy or a girl, BUT I have a smart sister who went back and bought it just for Jude. He will love it.

Remember all that artwork I loved from Etsy? Well, I ended up actually only getting one from there, but I'm really happy with what else we were able to pull together. My mom bought the "travel" print for him because it shares such important lifetime ideals: explore ceaselessly, grow freely, travel widely, listen carefully, & rest deservedly. I love it. The "tree" painting was a gift from Aunt Cheryl, who thought it was perfect for the room because of our last name--so Dave is the blue tree, I'm the green tree, and Little Jude is the orange tree. Cute? So cute! Ava asked me, "But where is Juno?" and so I told her, she is just off catching butterflies (down, to the left, to be exact). OK, then the "lion" print is actually from one of our rooms when we were kids. My mom can't remember if it was actually given to me, or my brother, but it was a gift from Grandma & Grandpa LaTulippe. All we had to do was reframe it, and voila--sentimental perfection! Lastly, the "animal" print is a piece of fabric that I framed. I picture myself saying, "Where's the elephant?" -- "Where's the froggy?" -- "Where's the whale?"
I feel so lucky because so many people "donated" items for the cause. The cause being babies are really expensive. THANK YOU, THANK YOU EVERYONE. I'm glad I didn't have to pay in full for most of the items in the nursery. What wasn't donated we scored off of ksl.com classifieds for a nice price, or we just used furniture we already had.
Rachie saw a version of this felt mobile on a blog post online (sorry, don't remember which one). So, together we made one ourselves, and although our hands were severely arthritic when all was said and done (note: if you take on this project, do yourself a favor and use actual sewing scissors) , I think the end product turned out nicely. The other crafty project I did for this room was covering the canvas storage bins in fabric. Those were much easier than the felt mobile...
I had Dave put a little lip on the edge of this floating shelf we had from Ikea. Now it can hold and display all of our baby books. That little "Sophie" giraffe is the squeakiest, most chewable toy. Notice it is gone in the picture on the left? Cruz took one look at it and had to have it while Rachie was taking pictures. Ha!
And now, it's just a waiting game. We are ready!
Lisa, I LOVE Jude's room. It is perfect!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute room. I love the artwork and how you arranged it. Also, I am glad you like Sophie the giraffe, she is a big hit with Jordan too!
ReplyDeleteyou've only got a week to nest for me and decorate my kids rooms....what do ya say? the room is just jazzy!
ReplyDeleteit's all so perfect. the sentimental items, DIY projects, etc. so many people already love him so muchand i think this nursery is a perfect representation of that! i'm gonna need your help when my time comes. you have a knack for this! good work, mama.
ReplyDeleteFun. Bright, happy room, with oranges and blues. Love the mobile--I've been thinking of something along those lines but with vellum for over Sidse's crib (note: you just don't get stuff done once these small people come). That Sophie the giraffe sure is a popular teething toy...and the carpet is awesome! It's hard to find stylish carpets.
ReplyDeleteGood job on making a budget-friendly baby room. You'll be so proud of it. We totally scored deals for Sidse's room and you can't even tell. Good times.
Now bring on Jude! (Cute name, too.)
