Name that song...

Growing up my dad would always play the "guess who sings this song" game with us in the car.  And being the know-it-all personality that I am, I have to say that I got pretty dang good.  My ears have a real talent for voice recognition.  So, naturally I always try and play this game with Dave.  And all these years, I have been shocked that he doesn't recognize the difference between Led Zepplin and The Rolling Stones.  Or The Police.  Or Eric Clapton--just the basic artists that every teenage boy at least had the greatest hits album for his well-rounded CD collection (not that my geeky teenage self really had the chance to look at those such collections, but still).

He maintains that this is because his parents just didn't listen to that sort of music.  It is a fair defense.  He's pretty knowledgable on Frank Sinatra, Johnny Cash, Neil Diamond, and Barry Manilow.  And I don't think many parents have a music collection like my dad or get so excited to share a good song.  So, I'm giving him that benefit of the doubt.  BUT, I still feel it's my duty to educate his poor soul.  And guess what?  He's getting pretty dang good at it!  I'm so proud when he hears Fleetwood Mac, and answers, "Now--it's not Stevie Nicks, is it?"  PROGRESS!!

Here's how the game went down last night on our drive home from Cheryl's house....

Song:  Ain't Even Done with the Night

Me: Now, who's this?
Dave:  Hmm, Jon Bon Jovi.
Me: No.  Close.  Same decade.  And they are both short, compact little rockers.
Dave: silence
Me: His first name is the same....
Dave: more silence
Me:  And his last name also has 3 syllables....
Dave: still nothing
Me: His last name is like a fruit.....that grows on a vine....
Dave:  Grapes??
Me: No, vines that grow on the ground.  You like to grow these.
Dave:  John.  John Watermelon....John....
Me:  Same family as a watermelon
Dave:  John Mellencamp!

See how smart he's getting?  Barely any clues!

I think our differences create the energy to make the world go around. Viva la difference! How many people can recite a cajun christmas carol? Or create a Jude?zzz
