We had a smallish party for our smallish guy over the weekend. Our goal was to keep things simple and fun--so that meant water games, some appetizers, some cupcakes, and some homemade ice cream. Oh, and some family. ;)
Thank goodness we did it simple like, because the day felt like anything but! We woke up early and made some birthday boy blueberry pancakes and sang and sang Happy Birthday until Jude blew out the candles enough (and singed his hair). Then we did our presents. Then Jude and I were off to Rachie's to pick up a big-boy bed, and proceed to squeeeeeeze it our car. Don't worry that I ended up having to leave Jude there and drive with my face smashed up against the steering wheel and my knees on the dashboard.
*Honk if you've ever felt that awesome*
Once home, my dad showed up to help tidy up the yard (thank you!!), while I blew up the kiddie pool, and Dave attempted to put up the bed. Fast forward hours later.....Jude badly in need of a nap, crib taken down, new bed missing some screws, Dave out looking for screws, and me STILL trying to blow up that dang pool! But, we pulled it off! Because Dave is a genius who figured out how to do the bed with a different set of screws, and because we have a kid so chill that he can see his new big-boy bed, shout and scream "BIG BOY BED!!!!!" play in it and still fall asleep for a good 1.5 hour nap. Once the kid was down, Dave told me that the reason my pool wouldn't blow-up was because I was using the release valve instead of the blow-up hole, and I felt like a huge blonde-idiot, but it didn't matter because the pool was inflating!!!! Soooooo, then Dave made some ice cream, while I filled up pots of hot water from the bath to try and warm up the hose-water in the pool.
We both scrambled to get ready, and then the guests arrived! Special props to my dad and mom who actually got in there and started the water fight with the kids--the kids thought it was super funny to throw balloons and shoot their guns at them. And special props to my sis for making fun of my '90s hair curls (I had no time!!!!!).
Jude totally loved opening more presents! And he made out with some good loot--a Mr. Turtle night-light, animal masks, magnet block, family zoo pass, paint supplies, play-dough and more.
Ahhhhhh, and the great thing about having parties, is that when it's all said and done, you GET to clean up your house, ALL over again!! He, he.
So that was Jude's 2 year party extravaganza.
A whirlwind of fun.
And now for some picture overload.
This is Jude saying "CHEEEESE."
Don't feel bad for her...she dunked herself!
Sun dog, snooooooze alert.
Holy Moly!! What great post. You are amazing. Seriously the pic of Jude staring down the camera in his green tank is incredible!
